Our Salute to July
with Alice Eshelman
We are fortunate to be able to offer a special patriotic dinner that evening at Joseph Decuis. The Philharmonic has graciously offered to send a brass quintet to entertain at the restaurant as their thank you for our support over the past 10 years. It was unfortunate that the annual Patriotic Pops Concert was cancelled but we hope you will consider attending this dinner. It should be a fun time, just a little smaller and more intimate out in our courtyard. (...More...)

NOT From the Kitchen
with Aaron Butts
The dog days of summer are upon us. As temperatures skyrocket, many of us will spend our weekends lounging around the pool or relaxing at the lake, sipping icy drinks with funny names in an effort to stay cool. The rest of us, me included, will be enjoying what we do best… barbeque. Americans have a love that runs deep when it comes to barbeque. Whether it’s ribs, chicken, fish, steak or hamburgers and hot dogs, cooking on a grill is an art, and many cooks take much pride in their work. (...More...)
Sweet Talk
with Megan Kosiak
With the weather getting downright balmy in Indiana right now, I spend my time thinking about cool and refreshing desserts. While chocolate is always a passion for those “sweettooths,” July is a time for something just a bit lighter. I must confess that before I converted to the dark side of Chocolate Worship, I was a complete lemonphile.(...More...)
Joseph Decuis Shines with Star Homes
with Annemarie Miller & Lisa Wylie
We had an absolutely wonderful opportunity to participate in the 2007 Parade of Homes. We were asked by Star Homes to display items from the Emporium in their fabulous, ultra-chic kitchen they had created for their customer (which by the way, won the Best Kitchen award at the Parade!) It was great fun filling the pantry, displaying items and chatting with people as they came through the home. We grilled samples of our very own Kobe beef burgers on the patio and also at the vendor tent. (...More...)

Down on the Farm
with Pete Eshelman
The first harvest of our very own farm-raised American Kobe is now on the plates in the restaurant and available at the Emporium. Raising this delicacy has been a labor of love. It has taken over 36 months from conception to harvest. I have worked side-by-side with John Pulver our farm manager. While I am a city slicker born in New Orleans and this is my first foray as a farmer, working with John has been like attending a Harvard PHD Program. I have never enjoyed working so hard and learning so much. (...More...)
A Summer Wine Riddle
with Carmen McGee
It is pink (or purple or light orange) and it tastes like strawberries & peaches. It is not sweet, but surprisingly crisp and dry. It’s simple, clean and an appealing match for many summertime foods, especially barbecue. What is it? (...More...)

Fresh Bread Fridays
Due to popular demand – we are offering our fresh baked baguettes on Fridays. They will be available by noon every Friday at the Emporium. Stop in and pick up a couple for the weekend. They are great sliced and grilled on the barbecue with a little olive oil, use them for sandwiches (my favorite) or just tear and eat at the table with dinner. Once the Roanoke Farmers Market opens this summer, they will be available on Saturdays as well.
